Cherish a Memory

Berman Memorial Pet Gardens

In Memory of Dr. Richard D. Berman and His Friend "Logan."

Losing your pet is a heartbreaking experience, and choosing a final resting place for your friend is a very personal ... and sometimes difficult decision. The Berman Memorial Pet Gardens, located at the Animal Rescue League, was created to provide a lovely, serene setting for your beloved companion’s final resting place. The Garden is composed of the Pet Columbarium (Mausoleum), Memorial Brick Walkway and Friendship Wall.

Remembering the years of love given to our pets, a lifetime of friendship and devotion reciprocated, we cherish the memories long after they have gone. Because the Animal Rescue League understands the deep bond between people and their companion animals, we are grateful to be of service to you and your pet during this difficult time.

Who was Dr. Richard D. Berman?

(Words from Dr. Sidney Berman)

Richard was a world-class animal advocate. A chiropractor and holistic healer, Dr. Berman graciously treated his patients with natural healing, sound nutrition and tender loving care. A vegetarian and outspoken animal-welfare advocate, Richard loved animals from the time he was a little boy. “Logan” was Richard’s first love, a small black female terrier rescued from an animal shelter when Richard was in chiropractic school. They were inseparable in life and when “Logan” died at age 11, her ashes were buried along with Richard’s so that they can be together in eternity. It is Dr. and Mrs. Sidney Berman’s hope that your thoughtful and unique gift will help save the lives of homeless animals, while providing an everlasting tribute to your beloved pet.

Cremation

We offer private and communal cremation services for your beloved pet, providing you and your pet with the utmost respect, professionalism, care and compassion. Cremation is accomplished in our own clean, sanitary and modern on-site facility. During the cremation process, your pet is gently laid on the hearth of the crematory, and the door is shut. When the process is complete, the remains are gathered and handled with care as they are processed by trained and certified personnel. Private cremains are bagged and sealed inside a carved teak box, urn, or owner-provided container and returned to you with a certificate of cremation.

Euthanasia Services

The League provides humane euthanasia for owned pets on an appointment basis between 10:00am and 3:30pm daily. Owners may be present during the euthanasia process. There is a fee which is based on the services requested. Emergencies will be accommodated as quickly as possible, but you may have to wait with your pet. Euthanasia is accomplished with an overdose of anesthetic. Pets may be given a pre-tranquilizer to relax, and our certified technician will take care to ensure the process is as stress free as possible.

The anesthetic will place your pet into a deep state of sleep. If you have ever had surgery, you may recall receiving an injection before surgery in pre-op, and awaking after surgery in the recovery room. This is what your pet will experience, only the concentration of the medicine used will prevent awakening.

Pet Columbarium/Mausoleum

Providing a dignified farewell for a pet is the last act of love you can offer your pet, and it is also an important act of closure. Because it is important to see that your pet’s remains are treated with the same concern and care that you gave your pet during its life, you may want to consider the Pet Columbarium/Mausoleum to inter your beloved pet’s remains.

A Columbarium/Mausoleum is a large structure housing niches for urns containing pet cremains. A sealed, weatherproof  box will be provided for the containment of your pet’s remains. The urn will be placed in a space within the columbarium and capped with a Corian plaque containing your personalized message in memory of your pet.

We will make arrangements with you for choosing the vault and scheduling your pet’s internment. You may wish to consider holding a small memorial service for close family and friends for the internment. You may consider purchasing adjoining multiple vaults to accommodate your pet family, so they can continue to be together. If you’d like to be present during your pet’s interment, an appointment for Monday - Friday is required. You may visit your pet’s resting place in the Berman Memorial Pet Gardens between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
