If you have lost your dog or cat, please visit the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League Monday through Sunday, 8:30am – 4:00pm to complete a lost report and to look for your animal. We cannot accept lost reports or provide pet identifications over the phone or via email.
Because we receive many animals each day, it is important to personally visit our shelter and other area shelters (link to “Other Animal Shelters” section) to look for your lost pet.
How Does Lost and Found Work?
Once we receive a stray animal, it is checked for a microchip. We make every effort to contact the owner if a microchip is found. Stray animals are held for five days, after which time they may enter our adoption program.
If you find your pet at our shelter, you will need to provide proof of ownership (medical records, pictures) and proof of rabies vaccination. By law, we cannot release an animal without proof of vaccination. If you cannot provide proof of vaccination, you will be required to pay for a rabies vaccination and tag.
How to Look for Your Lost Pet
- Visit all area shelters.
- It’s important to personally visit all area shelters and fill our lost reports at each. Leave a current photo of your pet with each shelter if you can.
- Check each shelter daily. Do not assume a shelter will house your animal longer than a few days
- Tell your friends, family, and co-workers that your pet is lost.
- Notify your veterinarian and all local vets in your immediate area. Place flyers in their offices with a clear description of your pet and a current photo.
- Post “Lost” flyers in your neighborhood if allowed. Make sure to describe your pet’s breed, color, age, and any distinguishing marks.
- Place an ad in your local newspaper in the classifieds’ Lost and Found section.
- Check bulletin boards and newspapers for a listing for “Found” animals.
- If you have moved or changed your phone number, update your rabies license tag by calling (561) 233-1200 and notify your microchip company.
- Always keep a second form of identification on your pet’s collar including your phone number.
